Four Vietnamese fishermen were rescued from the sea off Do Son, in Hai Phong city, northern Vietnam, on the morning of 28 October 2026. They fell overboard in rough weather after their boat could not move.
The Hai Phong City Border Guard gave the details. Its Do Son Border Guard Station carried out the rescue. The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) and the newspaper Phap Luat Viet Nam reported it the same day.
What happened
The fishing boat HP-90314 TS had five crew on board. It was fishing about 4 nautical miles southwest of Dau Island, near Do Son. One nautical mile is about 1.85 km.
The boat met high waves and strong wind. Its fishing net got caught around the propeller, so the boat could not move. Then four crew members fell into the sea. They drifted in the water and were in danger of drowning.
At about 7:30 local time, the Do Son Border Guard Station got a call for help from the captain, VNA says. Phap Luat Viet Nam gives the time of the accident as about 7:20.

The rescue
The station sent a rescue boat with four officers. By about 8:30, they had picked up all four fishermen. At 9:10, the men were taken to the Nam Do Son tourist pier, and doctors checked them there.
Three of the men were in normal health. The fourth had swallowed water. He was taken to the Do Son Medical Centre, where staff are caring for him and watching his condition.
The border guards are also helping to tow the fishing boat to shore. The authorities have not reported any damage to the boat.
What fishing crews can learn
These are general safety points for small fishing boats in bad weather. They are not findings about this boat:
Wear a life jacket on deck when the sea is rough. A person in the water is much easier to save when they are floating.
If the net catches the propeller, stop the engine at once. Do not try to clear the net in high waves without a safety line.
Keep everyone low and holding on when the boat cannot move. A boat with no power turns side-on to the waves and rolls hard.
Call for help early on the radio or phone. Give your position and say how many people are on board and how many are in the water.
Throw life rings or anything that floats to people in the water, and keep watching them until help comes.
