Training and medical in Georgia

In Georgia, the education and certification of seafarers is overseen by the Maritime Transport Agency (LEPL), part of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, under the Law of Georgia on the Education and Certification of Seafarers.

The Agency publishes three lists: maritime educational institutions, recognised maritime training institutions, and selected medical institutions. A training centre is recognised under STCW Regulation I/6 and Article 45 of the Law to run the courses and programmes the Agency recognises. Each recognition certificate carries an expiry date.

The Agency selects medical institutions that may assess seafarers' fitness and issue Seafarer's Medical Certificates. A selection lasts no more than 5 years, and the institution is monitored every year. The entries here come from these Agency lists, and only institutions whose certificates are still valid are included.
