Training and medical in Philippines

In the Philippines, the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), through its STCW Administration Office, is the single maritime administration for the STCW Convention. It issues certificates of competency and certificates of proficiency to Filipino seafarers and accredits the maritime training institutions (MTIs) that run STCW courses.

MARINA publishes a directory of accredited MTIs that lists, for each institution and branch, its accreditation period and every approved course with its own validity dates. Each branch is accredited separately, so check that the exact branch and course you want are on the current directory before you enrol.

Seafarer medical examinations in the Philippines are carried out by Medical Facilities for Overseas Workers and Seafarers (MFOWS) accredited by the Department of Health (DOH). MARINA also publishes a list of the MFOWS and medical practitioners enrolled in its MISMO system. Ask the clinic for its current DOH accreditation before booking.

You can verify a Philippine STCW certificate on MARINA's online verification page by entering the certificate number. Be wary of agents who offer certificates without attendance or assessment: only certificates issued by MARINA and training done at an accredited MTI are valid.
