Cylinder oil feed rate
Turn the cylinder oil feed rate set on the lubricator (g/kWh) into kilograms and litres a day, or work out the real feed rate from the daily consumption.
Fill in the fields to see the result.
How it works
kg a day = feed rate (g/kWh) × power (kW) × 24 / 1,000, and litres = kg / density (about 0.93 kg/l for cylinder oils). 0.8 g/kWh at 10,000 kW is 192 kg, about 206 litres, a day.
The right feed rate depends on the engine maker's guidance, the fuel's sulphur content and the oil's BN, and on scrape-down analysis. Too little wears liners and rings; too much wastes oil and builds deposits.
